One Year of RD Run Coach – And We’re Only Just Getting Started
Twelve months ago RD Run Coach was just an idea. A simple one. Create a space where everyday runners – especially those who didn’t see themselves as “real runners” – could show up, feel welcome, and improve at their own pace.
Now, one year on, that idea has become a community.
Run Squad mornings at 5:45am. Hills at Farnsworth. Flat sessions along the water at Newport and Williamstown. Coffee after. Messages during the week. Destination runs. Kangaroo Island on the calendar. Sixteen people putting their hand up for something that once felt “too big.”
And that’s what I’m most proud of.
Not the kilometres.
Not the medals.
Not even the 100km story (although that still gets a mention).
I’m proud of the women who turned up unsure… and now don’t think twice.
I’m proud of the runners who started with a walk-jog and now call themselves runners without flinching.
I’m proud of the consistency. Tuesday. Thursday. 5:45am. We show up.
That’s what changes people.
At RD Run Coach, the philosophy has always been simple:
We train in a way that fits your life.
We respect recovery (especially as we get older).
We build strength, not just speed.
We improve technique, confidence, and mindset.
And we do it together.
Run Squad has grown because it feels safe. Encouraging. Real. There’s no ego at 5:45am. Just people doing their best. Most of our group are women balancing work, family, life and fitness – and somehow still finding the courage to turn up before sunrise. That deserves respect.
Personally, this year has reinforced why I love coaching. I love seeing someone nail a hill session they once avoided. I love watching someone commit to a half marathon they never thought possible. I love when someone says, “I actually look forward to this.”
Newport. Williamstown Beach. Farnsworth Ave.
Each location has become part of the story.
But the real story is the people.
If you’ve run one session – thank you.
If you’ve been there since week one – thank you.
If you’re thinking about joining – this is your sign.
Year one was about building foundations.
Year two? We build strength. Confidence. Bigger goals.
The hills aren’t getting smaller.
But you’re getting stronger.
See you Tuesday. 5:45am.
